The MLK Drum Major Award is presented annually to an individual who
has evidenced deep commitment to the same ideals shown in Rev. Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr.’s life and work. Dr. King focused on the triple
evils of poverty, racism, and injustice. He had a fundamental regard for the philosophy of nonviolence, as inspired by his Christian faith. He valued love, peace, faith, courage, justice, kindness, good humor,
creativity. Dr. King understood the magnitude of each individual’s
humanity. Committee for King honors an individual whose life and work also reflect the same foundational values of the man for whom this organization is named.
